Shoulder to Cry On • Serpent Collier • Eye Don't See Collection
This serpent collier is the result of the collaboration of filigree artist Kevin Attard and myself, created for my 'Eye Don't See, Heart Don't Hurt' series, which it makes up Part 1 of. In this series I explore the theme of longing.
The 'Shoulder to Cry On' theme spins around the idea of a tough exterior hiding pain,
The filigree wirework that makes this 3-D sculpture collier is astoundingly beautiful and made in Attard's technique of creating sculptural wire pieces, a technique of his own devising and not found anywhere else on earth. The collier finial, in turn, was concepted and made by me - a cloisonnéeye on fine silver, with the single drop of a kyanite that brightly catches the light. The piece is part sculpture, part gala-jewelry, intended to be worn perched on the neck with its own weight as counterpoint that keeps it in place surprisingly well. It has delicious weight and the patination gives it a life-likeness, a scale-likeness.
It is unlikely that Attard and I will ever collaborate together again so that adds an extra bit of specialness to this very unique piece. I hope that when not worn, it may be displayed.
