“I met a lady in the meads,
Full beautiful—a faery’s child,
Her hair was long, her foot was light,
And her eyes were wild."

This piece was inspired by John Keats’ poem 𝘓𝘢 𝘉𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦 𝘋𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘔𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘪 (The Beautiful Merciless Lady). In the poem, we meet a knight who has become physically and emotionally stunted by unrequited love for a fairy creature he meets in the woodland and is now wandering about, aimless and broken. Though often reviled as a femme fatale, I do not subscribe to the idea of men shifting blame onto a woman when she does not love them back or just loves them no longer. I like to see her as a BattleAxe who chose to protect her magic and would not become entramalled to some mortal man.

For this big BattleAxe of a cuff, the woodland dryad from the BMMBX collection was recast in sterling silver as the enigmatic Belle Dame and she fixes the centre. She is flanked by two high grade petrified wood gemstones. These fossil-minerals were picked - aside from for their beauty - because they recall imagery of woods turned to stone, and enchanted places fixed in time like the lonely sedge where the knight in the poem is found wandering.

The cuff is perfectly weighty and queenly. Although most eschew bracelets because they tend to be unwieldy, a cuff that fits properly does not move around and is very comfortable to wear. It is best suited for ‘oval’ wrists (rather than round wrists, think cross-section) and is six inches in diameter, plus a 1 inch gap. You will be getting the very piece pictured. It is slightly adjustable.
