“But oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover! A savage place! as holy and enchanted As e’er beneath a waning moon was haunted By woman wailing for her demon-lover!” - Kubla Khan
This stanza is an absolute favourite of mine from the poem that inspired my collection Xanadu. My aim here was to create the invisible visible by making the mysterious sensuous sounds of the forbidding valley somehow palpable inside a piece. I attempted to achieve it with textured glass to create a disturbance in the 'sky' over the peaks of cedars dark beneath the indifferent smile of a waning moon. The resulting pieces has a great depth of colour and aliveness.
About the piece
The focal was created in the painstaking ancient technique of cloisonné enamel. After designing the linework, I bend miniscule fine silver wires into the outline designs, which are then filled with thin layers of glass powder, each layer requiring separate kiln firings. The result is a manmade gemstone. It will not fade and will be as beautiful and bright today as it will be a thousand years from now.

The piece is one of a kind and can be finished as a necklace pendant or a ring. If you would like a ring - remember to let me know your ring size at checkout.
