Most people think of Dracula as the first 'modern vampire' novel, making vampires seductive aesthetes, a deviation from their mythological origins in central Europe as hideous leech-like things. But in truth, the first vampire novella preceded it by twenty years and probably inspired Bram Stoker - it was Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu. In it, the eponymous vampire Carmilla develops romantic feelings for her victim Laura, and marks an instance of homosexual love in Victorian literature as well as the first victorian vampire.
About This Ring
In the spirit of this fall that I spend armed with enamels in my creation-arsenal, I wanted to recreate an cameo enamel piece of my imagining of the vampire Carmilla in classical profile.
It is created in cloisonne enamel technique; made with powdered glass and fine silver and foil wire (see below for more about the enamel process). It allows for brilliant play of light when the piece is turned this way and that - the light picks out depth in the deep red garnet background and bright flecks of fine silver beneath her green dress flash back. They contrast with her semi-transulcent pearlescent skin. A diadem of pearls circles her crown, glossy blue-black. All through, details are picked out in polished wire outline, that lends another layer of depth and shine. This is a handmade gemstone, entirely unique and painstakingly created.
The enamel cameo pictured will be finished as an oversized round sterling silver setting and mounted on a double-ring band in your size (an example photo has been attached). As this is a wearable artwork, it comes signed and dated on the reverse for collectability.
Please remember to let me know your ring size in the 'message to Lisa' section on checkout - Additionally, she can be turned into a necklace, but make sure you contact mefirst.

All handmade jewelry is delicate - it must not be dropped or snagged, exposed to chemicals or worn while performing strenuous activity - And it will stand the test of time to become an heirloom (Or be buried with you in your pyramid ofc)
What Is Enamel?
Enamel is essentially melted coloured glass. In this technique used here - known as cloisonne - Fine silver wires were bent into shape to form an outline, which was then filled with several layers of coloured glass. Each layer of glass is fired to very high temperature inside a kiln till it liquefies, before a subsequent layer is laid. Each piece has as many as ten layers, each requiring individual firings. The lengthy process results in the creation of a manmade gemstone, with an image that has depth, luminance and texture. Being glass, it is more durable than most gemstones out there and we have unearthed ancient enamels from millenia ago that have stood the test of time - but to allow this to become an heirloom (or join you in your pyramid) employ usual precautions when wearing handmade jewelry - no shocks, drops or chemicals.
