Channel is a cloisonné vitreous enamel focal inside an ancient-cross style setting with blue-flash labradorite and amethyst settings created as a stand-alone piece for the Journey collection, September 2020.
This cloisonné focal is an ode to inspiration. The self becomes a channel through which the love of the universe cascades, to be woven into art and expressions of humanity by the artist. It encompasses in itself the mood I want to achieve with Journey, the waters at the tributary of new and old symbolism, part-alchemy, part-2020.
The focal piece is made in the painstaking technique of cloisonné, where wires are delicately bent to my original designs then filled with thin layers or powdered glass that is kiln-fired. The resulting human-made gemstone glints and catches the light with great depth and brilliance, really glittering. (For more about cloisonné, check out this link where I walk you through the process in an IGTV). In this piece, I pushed the technique further by integrating 3-D elements that I fused into my artwork for a very unique piece.
The enamel is set into a 'relic-like' setting in a half-cross, inspired by the jewelry of the Byzantine era. The gemstones are blue flash labradorite, and juicy enamel, echoing the beads of creativity on the enamel surface.
This piece is an entirely unique piece of art jewelry and a collector's item, and comes signed and dated at the back.
All handmade jewelry is delicate. Though by no means as fragile as some stones, vitreous enamels can break or chip if mishandled. No drops, shocks, tugs or chemicals - and it will last to be buried with you inside your pyramid.
