This piece was inspired by the many standing stone 'temples' of my homeland Malta, similar structures of which can be found all over Europe, mapping the stars and keeping their secrets about the ancient people who built them and left nothing but mute rock in their passing.
Details
The focal of this necklace was created in the technique of cloisonne enamel, where fine silver wires are laid in outlines that are then filled with powdered glass and fired, layer by layer, also inside a kiln. For more on how cloisonné is created, check out this link where I walk you through the process in an IGTV. The process creates a painting in glass that reflects the light with an unmatched liveliness, and is considered a handmade gemstone.
The setting was fabricated using old school silversmithing techniques, to create a 3-D window into the scene. A beautiful green-and-red flash Australian opal accompanies the piece.
The piece comes on a custom-created circle collier with a chain for comfortable wear - the pendant bail allows for its slipping off so it can be worn on a different necklace if desired.
