Deep Romantic Strand • Mahogany Obsidian, Lavastone and Onyx • Xanadu collection
“But oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover! A savage place! as holy and enchanted As e’er beneath a waning moon was haunted By woman wailing for her demon-lover!”
In 1797 the poet Coleridge sat down to write the opium-inspired epic poemKubla Khan, where in the most melodic way he describes a fantastical fictional pleasure dome in mythical Xanadu. This poem is what inspired my collection Xanadu, with designs envisioned from its rich imagery as well as themes of romanticism and poppies.
Three gemstone strands were created for this collection, inspired by its colours and romanticism. In this one, I paired the textures of black lavastone, flecked-brown mahogany obsidian and deep shiny onyx for contrast. The strand can be worn at full length, or doubled over for a very wearable romantic look.
